About Me

Since childhood, I have had a fascination with wealth creation, although at the time I did not know to call it that. I grew up in Texas as a child of the 80's and vividly remember the impact the real estate crisis had on my family. My parents were both self employeed in the real estate industry, of which, all their income was dependent. This is my first recollection of my interest in money and wealth creation. I saw many people losing material things they had worked hard for, including my family, but I also noticed a few people getting very wealthy during this same time. Rather than getting angry, I got curious. I began reading books on money. The first one I read was The Millionaire Next Door.  I must have read that book a dozen times.  Each time, I gleamed a new bit of information. I began asking adults about how they got where they were in life and ran into a bit of a wall, as I realized money and finances were not considered a "polite" topic of conversation.  This peaked my curiosity even more.

Looking back, what I find most peculiar is that I was taught nothing about money in high school or college. Sure, I was taught how to write a check and balance a checkbook in high school.  With my college degree, I learned basic accounting and a slew of technical financial terms, but I didn't walk away from my formal education with a working knowledge of money and it's impact on daily life, much less about wealth creation. My degree was in Agribusiness & Finance!  I spent many years putting together the pieces through reading books, studying people and their behaviors, and making my own mistakes with money.

When I had my son, my husband and I decided we would focus on teaching him things we knew he would not learn in school. I looked for and expected to find a developed program, ciriculum, or at least educational videos to teach kids about money, but I found very little. What has been amazing is how many opportunities our day to day life presents to teach him about how money works. Because of this, we have decided to document our learning experiences through inexpensive electronic children's books that will teach financial concepts even a 5 year old can understand.  Our goal through the books is to peak the interest of children, lead them to ask questions, and bring out the entreprenueral spirit in them.
